在正式的Essay中，避免使用非正式缩写如can't, don't等。这些缩写可能会给读者留下口语化的印象，因此最好使用完整的单词来表达你的意思，以保持文章的正式性和专业性。
像can't, shouldn't, couldn't, wouldn't, isn't, haven't, hasn't, don't 这类在非正式英语写作或者口语中常见的词，是绝对不能出现在学术类英语写作中的。必须要拆开使用。should not, could not, would not, 等等。
特别的是can't 拆开后不是can not, 而是一个单词cannot。
尽管“there is”和“there are”是常见的表达方式，但过度使用会使文章显得单调乏味。为了避免这种情况，可以尝试使用更多的同义词或者重组句子结构，以丰富表达方式，增加文章的多样性和吸引力。
举个例子：There are many challenges that students face at university. 去掉 there are, 同样能很清楚地表达意思；Students face challenges at university.不仅没有那么冗长了，还能让人一眼抓住句子的重点。
尽管一些口语化的副词在口语交流中很常见，但在正式的Essay中应该尽量避免使用，以保持文章的正式性。例如，减少使用“really”、“actually”、“totally”等副词，而选择更正式的表达方式。
例1：Many students think writing is very hard. 这里我们就可以用一个单词来解决问题。改后：Many students think writing is difficult.
例2:This topic is really controversial.怎么改成更加formal的呢？直接把really去掉就好了。本身controversial这个词已经是很强烈的了。
能删掉口语化的程度副词尽量删去，不要让文章中出现过于口语化的词汇。
写essay最重要的是“客观”,所以在大部分情况之下都不会使用第一人称。除非问题中明确地表示“说明你的观点/意见/看法”之类。
如果你发现自己经常只使用“and”来连接句子，那么多学习一些其他的连词并尝试在文章中使用它们。例如，“however”、“moreover”、“furthermore”等，这些连词能够使你的文章结构更清晰，逻辑更严密。
